Greek Spotlight: Tau Kappa Epsilon

Greek Spotlight: Tau Kappa Epsilon

Tau Kappa Epsilon, known as “TKE” or “Teke” around the nation, is the largest national fraternity, and has a chapter right here at NJIT. The Kappa Eta chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon, located in the red and white house at 317 Martin Luther King Boulevard, has gained a reputation around campus as a small but very tight knit group of brothers, at 20 men strong. Using their numbers to populate community service events and fundraiser for charity, the Kappa Eta chapter has proven the philanthropic power that fraternities are capable of. In fact, the Kappa Eta chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon spearheaded the way as one of the Fall 2013 leaders in philanthropy at NJIT.

In the Fall 2013 semester, the Kappa Eta chapter raised $3,380 and completed 441 hours of community service for organizations such as the HERO campaign, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Toys for Tots, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, among 12 other philanthropic events. In the current Spring 2014 semester, the Kappa Eta chapter has raised $350 for Restore The Shore, helped organized a HERO Campaign fundraiser with the NJIT Police Department, and is already looking forward to their annual TKE Homeless event. Of course, the brothers have also been in attendance at many events hosted by other NJIT Greek-lettered organizations. This philanthropic effort embodies their motto of “not for wealth, rank, or honor, but for personal worth and character”, and shatters the usual stereotypes that cloud Greek life.
