A Message to Everyone That Needs It: You Matter

Erick Allas

To you, the one reading this: I want to tell you something. It is something that may be said to you every day or very rarely: I love you and I am here for you.

In light of recent events, I feel it has to be said. It is important no matter how much you care to admit it. We all need to hear we are loved and that someone is there for us. At some point, we may feel so lonely that our world could crumble. We need one another whether we like it or not.

We, as human beings, survive because we create the world we live in together. Everyone matters in this world, especially you.

You. A person with the chance to live. You. A person with a chance to make a difference. A person that can affect the world in such ways you could never imagine. Every single thing you do affects the world to an extent. You’re not a celebrity? Who cares! You do not need to be a celebrity to make a difference in this life. You just need to live in harmony with others, love them, and work together in order to achieve a happier and more peaceful life. The world needs you to help it grow.

I understand your life has been, or currently is, rough and stressful, but you can get through it. There are people in the world that have it so tough that they fight in a war every day just to survive to the next morning. They have to fight just to get some food and water. They have to fight just to stay alive. Yet, with everything around them, they still find happiness each day. You can too.

You know that thing called smiling? It is a great thing to do; it is like a skill you can practice. It can make you feel better through the worst, like a drug only you can activate! There are many kinds of smiles: big, small, sideways, etc. and they are all beautiful especially when coming from you! Smile for me! Smile that you are alive and able to read this! Smile that you still have something to call a life!

Regardless of your hobbies, you still can move forward and do many things with yourself. Most of you reading are in your 20’s and have many years ahead of you. If you’re older, then you have the time to dance or explore the world! Move and be active. Get out there and experience this thing we call life. Regardless of your condition, you can still find something amazing to do. We see countless stories of people with a life-threatening situation and yet, they learn to live their lives to the fullest! Isn’t that amazing? You can be amazing too! Wait, you already are amazing! How? You’re alive! Now go live that life you want to live.

Don’t know where to start? Start with this: take a deep breath, close your eyes, and breathe. Think about your life. Think of everything that has lead up to this point, good or bad. Quite a rollercoaster right? Now think about the world around you. What is the state of it? Amazing? Horrid? Alright? Why is it that way and is there anything you can do about it?

If the answer to that last question is no, then make the best of it. Everything second in life matters. Make the most of your time.

If you can’t start somewhere, find me and talk to me. My name is CK. You can talk to me. Email me at epa2@njit.edu and I promise to talk to you. If you can’t talk to me, talk to anyone you trust or call a hotline number. Bottling up your feelings, emotions, and struggles will make you feel strong, but you won’t realize how many people will miss you if you were gone. You may not think you have made an impact, but you have. I have been in that situation before. I was saved and didn’t realize how many people I would have affected if I went through with it.

Please, at the least, talk to me. I’ll be a friend to you no matter what you tell me. I love you and I am here for you.
