Senior outside hitter Lisa Hipp recorded a match-high 12 kills for Fordham in the Rams 3-0 victory over NJIT Friday evening at the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devil Invitational.
The Rams topped NJIT in straight sets, 25-19, 25-11 and 25-12, improving to 7-6 on the season while the Highlanders fall 2-8.
Following Hipp’s match-high 12 kills was sophomore outside hitter Brianna O’Neil with nine kills, while three different Rams notched eight kills – Kristen Ostach, Lindsay Ritchie and Brennan Delsing.
Ostach, a freshman middle hitter, finished the match with a .571 hitting percentage with eight kills and no errors on 14 attempts, while Ritchie, a junior right side hitter hit .429 with eight kills and two errors on 14 swings for the winners.
Fordham setter Sara Konkel piled up a match-high 40 assists and added five digs, while libero Emily Atwood dug-up a match-high 14 digs. Four different Rams recorded five digs – Konkel, Hipp, Delsing and Michele Keathley.
NJIT’s Fran Edmondson led her team with five kills to go along with seven digs and four assists, while Cathy Leung, Valerie Carroll and Nina Vukotic added three kills apiece.
Libero Katie Goswick paced the Highlanders’ floor defense with eight digs, while adding two service aces. Edmondson and Leung each notched seven digs for NJIT.
The closest set of the match was the first frame, which ended 25-19 in favor of Fordham. NJIT found itself down 15-9, but rallied back to pull within one of the Rams, 17-16, after kills by Nina Vukotic and Julia Colombo. The score remained close until 21-19, when the Rams scored the next four points to win 25-19.
