The boys in red and white charge ahead

Have you ever cheered so loudly and been so enthusiastic during a game that the head coach wanted to climb up into the stands to give you and the other supporters hugs? That was what happened during the NY Red Bulls, 2-0, win over the United a few weekends ago. Although wins have been rare in the first few games of the season, the boys in red and white are finally coming together to show what they are worth.

The beginning of this season was met with concerns and worries as the inexperience of the new head coach, Mike Petke, and the changes in roster may have ruined the team dynamic from last year. These concerns were heavily justified as the team currently stands at fourth in the ranking with 3 wins, 4 losses, and 2 ties.

Red Bulls parted ways with Rafael Marquez (notable for his time with Barcelona), Joel Lindpere, Kenny Cooper (the Red Bulls 2012 leading scorer), and William Conde. However, these loses were immediately recovered with the signing of Juninha Pernambucano (Brazilian World Cup champion), Peguy Luyindula (notable for his time on the French International team), and three Major League Soccer (MLS) champions: Fabian Espindola, Jamison Olave, and Kosuke Kimura.

It should be noted that the Red Bulls have had a history of rough starts and constantly changing rosters ever since their time as the Metro All Stars. Compared to last year, the defenders are faster and quicker to react and the team is not just reliant on Henry to score all the goals. It has been a common sight to see midfielders, McCarty, Steele, and Juninho score goals and even the defenders, such as Olave, have made game winning shots.

The team has been more cohesive as a group and is playing with a level-headed style that is the opposite of the attacking stratagem they had in previous years. The passes and assists are better executed and Luis Robles, the keeper, has been making well-coordinated saves throughout the season.

Although three of the next five games will be away for the Red Bulls, New York will host Montreal Impact on May 8th and LA Galaxy on May 19th. Both games will be exciting matches and great match ups between teams. Interested in going? Tickets are already on sale and the games are held at Red Bulls arena which is located next door in Harrison, NJ.

Definitely take a chance to attend some games at the arena and meet some of the players. This summer will have many exciting moments for the Red Bulls as they are sure to move up the ranks this season. Soy Del Metro!
