Seniors Rock Out with 40 Days till Graduation

Seniors Rock Out with 40 Days till Graduation

On Thursday April 10, 2014, students at the Highlander Pub rocked out to the musical styling of the rock and power pop indie band Wise Girl.

The female-fronted New York band performed a variety of original songs from their album “You’ll Just Have to Wait”, along with several covers. Abby Weitz, lead singer, cited musical influences such as Led Zeppelin, Weezer, and the Beatles. She writes all of the band’s songs herself.

Some standout original songs include “Stuck in This”, “I’m Not Ready”, and “I’m A Freak”, which Weitz says is her favorite song to perform. “It’s such a self-deprecating song!” she says.

One crowd favorite was their cover of “Kids in America”, which surely got the crowd excited. However, it was their acoustic songs that truly demonstrated how powerful, yet sweet Weitz’s vocals are.

Aside from the performance itself, the band members were truly high-spirited and were grateful towards the students who came to see the show, hanging out with some students during their break. They also gave away free CDs and shirts as a way to express their appreciation.

If you want to check out more of their music, you can subscribe to their YouTube channel Wisegirlmusic, or like them on Facebook.
