ARTicle 9-20

Hello Student Art Society Members and Supporters! I hope everyone is surviving their first few weeks of the Fall semester. Did you attend any of the FREE on-campus events?

To encourage participation in campus activities, your ArtBoss attended Pancakes with the President on September 3, which was also the first day of class. It was great to greet and meet NJIT Faculty members and staff who generously volunteered their time to serve pancakes and breakfast while getting to know students. I hope you had a chance to visit the Campus Center Lobby that day to get your morning pancake fix. Remember, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Then, followed by the Pancake Breakfast, around 11AM New Jersey’s Governor Chris Christie arrived near the NJIT clock tower in front of the Central King Building to commemorate the CKB renovation. Hey, Governor, how about more funding for art programs at our school and art supplies for those artists that can’t afford their own? (Haha, wouldn’t that be nice?)

After the Governor’s brief visit, I had a great photo-op with NJIT’s President, Dr. Joel Bloom. Thank you, Dr. Bloom, for taking the time to pose for a dapper picture with the ArtBoss! We hope to see you when we’re hosting campus events!

That following Saturday, September 7, I attended the Club Workshop with SAS Executive Board member, Louis Eastman. During the workshop, which was conducted by Student Senate and Campus Center Administration, we learned about the updated Campus Center and Club Rules & Regulations for this semester.

Good news! During the Club Workshop’s Trivia Game Show, ArtBoss (yours truly) won $100 for each club sitting at Table 3 (nicknamed “The Sharks”) by answering the most trivia questions correctly. To the rest of “The Sharks”, you and your members are invited to attend our art events! (You know who you are ^_^)

More good news! We have the same office as last semester; we’re in the Campus Center Basement, Room B7 (aka The Art Room). We will have our office hours posted on our door and listed on our Facebook page within the next week. We are scheduling our FREE art workshops to be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week from 3PM to 7PM in the Art Room.

Alongside our Campus Center Lobby events and art exhibits, we will have our SAS featured student-artists hosting workshops. We are currently taking applications for student-artists to host these workshops. If you have an artistic activity or craft / skill that you would like to share with us, then YOU can host a how-to workshop with the help of our SAS members. To submit your workshop idea, please email us: [email protected].

For all the NJIT students interested in joining or supporting SAS, check out our Facebook page for photos of art workshops or visit our Google site for detailed information about our club and the events that we’ve hosted. Visit our Google site at: https://sites.google.com/a/njit.edu/student-art-society/ so you can access our Member Application Form and Constitution. Come visit us in our Art Room and submit the Application Form during our office hours.

Just recently, during the evening of September 12, I was ambush-interviewed by Christian and Angel of NJIT WJTB Geek Radio! The impromptu interview was only a few minutes long but it was really nice to get acquainted with the friendly station DJ’s. I was also able to promote the SAS and mention our active recruitment of new SAS members and supporters! I hope those hundreds of WJTB listeners decide to join or support our club. As always, we appreciate your new and continued support for the SAS! Let’s keep art alive at NJIT 😉

Later this month, we will also be co-hosting a party to celebrate our 2-Year Anniversary as an official NJIT Y-club. More details to follow in the next ARTicles. Do you want to attend our art party? We are planning to have dancing, free-face painting, contests for prizes, and we’re even thinking about holding costume contests during the event! Feel free to contact us to suggest additional party activities.

Thank you for reading this week’s ARTicle. Stay tuned for more art news next week!
