Height: 5’10”

Hometown: Lancaster, PA

Freshman Ian Bentley made two appearances for the Highlanders last week, picking up a win and earning a save.

Against Fairfield

NJIT reliever and winning pitcher, freshman LHP Ian Bentley (2-1) held the Stags scoreless from the fifth inning on. NJIT surged back into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Highlanders added another score in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 10-6 advantage.

NJIT’s Bentley blanked Fairfield over the last 5.1 innings, while scattering four hits and striking out one without a walk. It was the second straight long relief appearance resulting in a win for the rookie, who tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless one-hit relief at UMass to earn credit for NJIT’s 7-6 11-inning win on Easter Saturday.

Bentley took over from starter Joe Fasano, who was touched for the four Fairfield first-inning runs, but settled down with two scoreless frames before the visiting Stags picked up a couple of runs (one earned) in the top of the fourth.

Against Utah Valley

Bentley finished with 2.1 scoreless innings to preserve the 9-7 win and record his second save of the season against Utah Valley.
