How to Get Through the Stress of Final Exams

Final exams are stressful! Exams require you to produce information and results, based upon lectures, prior examinations, readings, assignments and your memory. However, final exam week can be an exciting experience if you are prepared.

Stress Reducing Final Exam Tips

Plan ahead! As your final exams approach, you should be aware of how much time you will need to review lecture notes, what materials the test will cover, and the format of the examination(s).

Use calendar applications that are on your computer, tablet, or phone. This is a great way to stay organized as well as planning in advance. This can be more effective than a paper planner. Most technology devices have features that send alerts to remind you of upcoming events in advance.

Communicate with your professors. Feel free to ask your professor(s) about the content of your exams. Don’t be afraid to ask for additional help to gain understanding regarding difficult subject concepts or problems.

Enhance your study skills by forming study groups or a partner to share information and to effectively review materials. In addition, seek assistance from a teaching assistant or a tutoring service such as NJIT’s Center of Academic and Personal Enrichment (CAPE). CAPE is located in Kupfrain Hall, room 200, phone (973) 596-6470 or email: [email protected].

Maintain a positive attitude. Believe that you will successfully complete the examination. Reflect upon your goals and think about how much effort you put into preparing for your final exams.
