Comedian Alex Stone takes the stage at NJIT

Comedian Alex Stone Takes the Stage at NJIT

Melanie Bucoy

On Thursday April 7 in the Campus Center Pub students were graced with yet another Java House hosted by NJIT’s SAC featuring comedian Alex Stone and NJIT’s A’capella group, Giga-Beats.

The first performer of the night performed two medleys, the first one featuring “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes and the second featuring “I Want You Back” by the Jackson 5. The students performing showcased their amazing talents by singing the songs with no instrumental accompaniment. The A’cappella group performed to warm up the crowd for a great night.

The main performer of the night was the up and coming comedian Alex Stone from New York. Despite performing in front of a fairly small audience, he still managed to render many laughs and interacted with nearly everyone. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Stone was able to entertain the audience with his life experiences transitioning from the Midwest to the city and share his hilarious point of view of what he has experienced in the city so far. He also shared other life experiences that the audience found humor in and could simultaneously relate to. Stone has been recognized around the country for his talent and has been invited to perform in many venues since his recognition. Stone was named one of the top 100 comedians in season 8 of NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2014 and has been featured in the Huffington Post and the Chicago Tribune. Stone also released his debut album “Hello” on iTunes this past year and reached number 3 on the charts.

For those of you missing out on these great events, please come out and enjoy the fun! SAC’s Java Houses are a great way to spend your Thursday evenings with free food and entertainment. There are always great comedians just like Alex Stone that come to campus to perform for us and are worth the watch.
