First Friday Celebration: Carnival Ends Week of Winter

Stephen Chan

Week of Winter came to an end with First Friday, a carnival like event, in the Campus Center Atrium. The carnival finished off the celebrations that welcomed students back to campus after winter break

Throughout the late afternoon until midnight, students piled into the Atrium to enjoy the last big celebration before the end of syllabus week. The carnival was a giant affair; students had a wide variety attractions available, such as sumo wrestling and body painting.

Sororities were also prominent at the carnival, allowing students to meet a few of them. Sororities Alpha Sigma Tau and Delta Phi Epsilon volunteered to help run Twister and the Bull Wrangling machine, respectively. Meanwhile, Sigma Psi Kappa catered the food for students who visited.

Additionally, students could win free shirts with if they mentioned the event on social media. This was part of an effort to get more publicity for SAC run events and let students know about the several other events that the organization is responsible for.

The event has hosted by SAC and Student Senate, who both worked all throughout week of winter to set up events. Week of winter is an annual occurrence that is held for students to allow them to readjust to campus life, and will return once again next winter.

Both SAC and Senate are looking to continue to bring great events to students for the rest of the year.
