Fun in the Sun at NJIT

Melanie Bucoy

NJIT’s SAC brought a little sunshine to this wintry campus by hosting an Island Beach Party at the Pub. The night was filled with many great attractions that made you forget the cold weather and took you to a tropical place filled with lively music, refreshing smoothies, and great food.

One of the main features of the night was the music. Playing on stage was The Ewabo Steel Drum Band, who provided live music and gave the night a perfect Caribbean atmosphere. The members of the band, who themselves were from Trinidad and Tobago, covered well-known songs for people to sing along to. Their music was fitting for the night as the three-man band gave the songs a reggae-Latin twist with their steel drums and keyboard.

As the crowd sat back and enjoyed the music they also had the luxury of delicious, free Maui Wowi smoothies in three different flavors, mango, piña colada, and strawberry mango, which were perfectly topped with theme-fitting cocktail umbrellas. Later on in the event, the crowds also munched on free food, such as jerk chicken, plantain, and so much more.

All these things put together set the perfect mood for everyone to relax and have a great time in a bright environment so different from our current season. To top off the night a raffle took place with two winners of gift cards. A great response came from the crowd as they enjoyed the night.

“I really enjoyed the theme of the night, it was such a relaxing experience, “said freshman Tola Chen.

Fun events like this night happen often in NJIT, you just have to keep an eye out for SAC’s announcements and you too, can be part of the fun throughout this semester. Nights like these can make all the difference.
