A lot of people who come into IndieCade don’t come empty handed. IndieCade works as a place to gain new ideas from and create experience with like-minded people under one common flag. Thus, IndieCade East had an event where developers who aren’t able to showcase their ideas can basically gloat about how awesome their games are.
The Gameslam represents the perfect combination of developers talking while being able to open themselves up to show off their awesome projects. Sadly, all of these games aren’t equally as awesome, for now, but there were a lot of really cool games I wish I had in my hands.
Being the first game I saw at the Gameslam, it really struck out amongst the rest. Imagine you’re playing as Goku riding Shenron. Now imagine Goku being really, really, really mad at Shenron to a point where he wants to strike him in the noggin. That’s Earth Knight. It is an action platformer combining some familiarity from NiGHTS and Shadows of the Colossus in a way where you’re trying to take down giant dragons as you fly, jump, and slide on your target until you reach the dragon’s head.
Combining elements from Braid and Super Crate Box, you are tasked with defeating ghosts of your former self. The game takes ghosts of each run, including ghosts of every weapon you fire, where each screen clear means one extra enemy to face in the next level. Despite the game’s rough graphics, the game is a joy to play.
The 2nd Amendment
Basically putting the best parts of NBA Jam with a classic game of Gauntlet, Crystal Brawl is a 2-v-2 fighting medieval sports action fantasy game. The goal of Crystal Brawl is to retrieve a flag from one side of a map to your initial space on the field. Using the powers of might and magic, players are able to demolish the board for their own gain.
There is a magic when Vlambeer shows off their games. Being one of the more prolific companies in the industry, when Rami Ishmali shows off the sheer number of weapons they’re putting in a rogue-like game, you know how much fun it’s going to be. Nuclear Throne is a rogue-like where you shoot things. A lot of things.
