Greek Spotlight: Lambda Phi Theta

Lambda Theta Phi is a Latino fraternity that has 14 members from both NJIT and Rutgers Newark. The brothers have partnered with Soles4Souls: a Nashville-based organization that collects new and used shoes and donates them to people in need around the world.
Soles4Souls has distributed 22 million pairs of shoes in 127 countries to date. Student Adam Sanchez came up with the idea to have his fraternity run a shoe drive for Soles4Souls when he saw how many pairs of shoes he had at home that he wasn’t using. He realized that he couldn’t be the only person with a plethora of unused shoes, and that these shoes could be serving a greater purpose than collecting dust. He decided to do some research to see what he could do to help, and came across Soles4Souls. The shoes are being collected on April 22nd, 25th, and 29th in the Campus Center, from 10 am-3 pm. In addition to shoe donations, the brothers will be accepting monetary donations to cover costs for packing/transport of the shoes.
Lambda Theta Phi was established in 1975 by 14 Latino men of Kean College, in Union, NJ. It is described by its members as being “Latin by tradition, not by definition”. LTP was the first Latino fraternity in the United States, and was established with the intention of uniting Latino students, developing their leadership skills, and instilling commitment to their culture and community. LTP has an event coming up – a camp out on the last day of the month where they will discuss chivalry and tally their shoe collections.
