NJIT Senior Class’ Spring Formal 2015

Spring Week Ends in a Glamorous Night in Hollywood

Amy Ng

Last Friday, April 24th, NJIT Highlanders made their way to the Bethwood Banquet Hall in Totowa, New Jersey to enjoy an opulent night of food and music on the behalf of the Senior Class. The Hollywood-themed dance, which was open to students of every class standing, welcomed 264 attendees, all of whom dressed to impress. Joining in on the evening’s festivities included the University’s President and Vice President, Dr. Joel Bloom and Dr. Charles Fey.

Gretchen Von Koenig, the Senior Class President, headed the planning of the Spring Semi Formal.

“I started planning the formal around late January… The greatest challenge that I had to overcome was keeping constant communication with a variety of vendors, entertainers and venue representatives. It was a lot of pieces and parts and I had to essentially serve as the adhesive that put it all together.”

Von Koenig and her committee’s efforts were very evident—students and faculty enjoyed themselves throughout the entire night. A pre-meal reception welcomed guests with an expansive variety of tapas, and attendees danced the night away after a couple of plates of fine dining, shortly after. In keeping with the Hollywood theme, Grammy-shaped chocolates and movie star-esque sunglasses adorned tabletops and were taken home as mementos.

“I had a really great time,” Timothy Boyle, a senior in Computer Science imparts. “This was a nice way to celebrate the end of my time as an undergraduate student here at NJIT with all of my friends.”

[Von Koenig] “…would like to thank everyone who attended, as formal isn’t anything without the students who make it a good time.” Well, Gretchen, the formal wouldn’t have been anything if you hadn’t planned it, so on behalf of all who attended, thank you.
