New Jersey’s 2013 gubernatorial race comes to a close today when citizens vote to either re-elect Republican Gov. Chris Christie or elect Democratic state senator Barbara Buono.
Voting will be held from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. If you are registered to vote, you can find your polling location by visiting the New Jersey Department of State’s website and entering your address in the indicated field.
A poll done by Farleigh Dickinson PublicMind on Friday put Christie in the lead with just under a 60% of likely voters in favor of Christie and 40 percent supporting Buono. Of the likely voters, 23% remain undecided. The same poll, done on Friday, shows Buono gaining ground on the governor but this is expected to have little effect on the turn out today, The Star-Ledger reports.
Both have been hard at work this past week visiting towns and meeting with voters. Stopping in towns such as Nutley, Hillside, and Union City on Monday, Christie appealed to voters with his policies regarding education, jobs, and gun control. New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez joined him in an attempt to reach out to the Hispanic community
In stark contrast, Buono did not rely on the aid of any “celebrity’’ Democrats in her final push. Though the state’s Democratic Party chairman, John Currie, joined her in Paterson on Sunday, she did not rely on the aid of any nationally known Democrat. She criticized Christie for caring more about running for president than looking out for the interests of New Jerseyans.
