Men’s Fencing Wins At MACFA

The NJIT men’s fencing team picked up three wins on Sunday at the MACFA B vs. C Tournament defeating University of Virginia, University of Maryland and William & Mary hosted by Johns Hopkins.

The Highlanders were winners against Maryland (17-10), William & Mary (17-10) and Virginia (19-8) while dropping a (20-7) decision to host Johns Hopkins and (14-13) decision against Navy.

NJIT freshman foilist David Kong, who recently took part in the Junior World Cup in Slovakia in mid-November placing 86th out of 182 individual competitors, finished the MACFA Tournament with an impressive 11-1 record.  Kong went a perfect (3-0) against Maryland, William & Mary and Virginia while finishing (2-1) against Johns Hopkins.

Junior Ian Pershad finished with a 10-5 overall record at the tournament, blanking Maryland and Virginia (3-0) while earning identical scores (2-1) against William & Mary and Navy on the foil strip.

Freshman Ryan Hrapsky, who competed on the epee strip Sunday went 10-5 on the day.  Hrapsky picked up a (3-0) decision against Virginia while earning (2-1) victories over William & Mary, Johns Hopkins and Navy.

Senior captain Bryan Ransinangue finished with a 10-2 mark blanking Maryland, William & Mary and Virginia (3-0) on the sabre strip.
