Building the Best NJIT: Gingerbread Competition

Stephen Chan

The art of building gingerbread houses is showcased at NJIT, once every year, at the Gingerbread competition hosted during the week of winter. At the event, contestants compete for the $500 cash prize.

To win, all groups must build a gingerbread structure that best displays NJIT pride. Pride can be expressed in a variety of ways, from a billboard featuring NJIT to a scale model of a campus building. Last year’s winning team constructed a partial model of the campus center, of the side facing the clock.

The two hour long event featured some of the most creative designs to date; not all of the structures were even buildings. Students built a variety of different structures that they felt best exclaimed NJIT pride.

One of the competing teams created a gingerbread laptop with a parody of Moodle on the screen, written with frosting. Another group built a small city that had several tall gingerbread buildings and a park of gummies. The city featured one skyscraper taller than the rest proudly displaying NJIT’s logo.

At the end of the event, the 5 best structures won cash prizes.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2015 NJIT Gingerbread Competition.
