SAC is starting this semester full swing with hypnotism! With this being the second hypnotist I’ve seen at NJIT, I have to say this was a lot more entertaining than the first last semester! The style of hypnotism by Keith KarKut has a more dynamic flow. There were stumbles here and there, but I had a really great time with a lot of interesting people!
From what I saw, there was a huge crowd brought together by both the prospects of watching their friends embarrass themselves on-stage and by WJTB with their selection of chiptunes, house, and punk music. There was a lot of laughter. Some people cried and others tried to be Usher. I was surprised at the great turn out.
Keith Karkut made a good effort keeping the show on the road when people started losing their trances. His style of hypnotism is on a different plane than the last guy back in March with his use of audience participation.
How does it feel to be hypnotized? Kayleigh McCabe, one of the participants in the show, expressed her feelings of being dumb on stage. Talking with some of the other participants on stage, like Michael Selsky, they agreed that when they were on stage, they didn’t know what was going on. Granted, the moment they got off stage, they remembered everything, but they also felt relaxed.
Hypnotism, as described by Keith Karkut, is a trance. The people involved feel weightless, relaxed, and asleep. Afterwards, everyone feels good about themselves, like they can go the whole night without rest. I’m not that much of a health expert but talking to some of the people from the show, they looked and acted energetic.
The event, as a whole, was fun. For one of the first few SAC events, the numbers look promising and who knows how crazy the next one’s going to be!
Foam Party
Sometimes, SAC events can be pretty crazy. The foam party was one such example. What students saw was a giant inflated pit filled with suds and bubbles coming from two receptacles. What it became was a sandbox of sorts. People were playing duck duck goose, sliding around the suds, dancing, and doing almost anything else they could think of. The foam party started as a giant container of soap but by the end, it became a get-together and a fun end to the freshmen Tech Games.
Kevin Kelly, the president of SAC, mentioned how crazy the event was. That game of duck duck goose became a slip-and-slide. There was a mini dance party inside the game of duck duck goose. It was a pool party without an actual pool.
Students definitely had a lot of fun throwing bubbles at each other and it would be awesome to see more of these kinds of events on campus that bring students together, create friendships, and unite people of different backgrounds. Now, can we please have a puppy event?
This week, SAC’s got a number of events lined up.
Starting today, if you have the time, there are two SAC events going on in the Pub! Fast and the Furious Six will be playing on the green at 9pm alongside this semester’s first game show, Don’t Forget the Lyrics! Having helped out at the last Don’t Forget The Lyrics, you’ll hear a medley of songs from indie hits to show tunes and more. Check it out at 7pm-9pm in the Pub, today!
As a way to relax after your hard math commons, SAC will also give out sundaes out in the pub on Wednesday.
Lastly, this Thursday, from 1:30pm to 6pm on the Upper Green, SAC will be running an Ultimate Frisbee tournament that is open to any and all NJIT students. Form teams and show off your Frisbee throwing skills!
