The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), catering to the female population, has been at the center of the engineering community at NJIT. SWE is a professional organization that aims to connect female students to respective industry professionals and give them a leg up in both their college journeys and careers. It also provides women nationwide with scholarships to support their educational journey. Even though the NJIT chapter is one piece of the larger organization, their contributions do not go unnoticed. It is a step towards equality and opportunity in the presently male-dominated engineering and STEM fields. The organization provides the resources and support to help female Highlanders succeed. SWE provides a pathway for students to have access to the multiple career fairs and conferences hosted during the year. Some ways SWE helps students prepare is through resume reviews, guest panels, and networking. Each semester, NJIT SWE offers a conference for students, providing students with the chance to network in a smaller setting and converse directly with employers.
NJIT SWE plays an integral role in the NJIT Engineering scene, and through its members’ efforts, the organization helps provide women engineers a safe space to pursue their passions and give them a sense of belonging and community.
