NJIT recognizes a total of 21 Greek Letter Fraternities and Sororities, and on Wednesday January 21, each one gathered in the atrium for “Meet the Greeks”. Anyone interested in joining the Greek life was welcome to come out and socialize with the brothers and sisters of NJIT and get informed of just how much each Fraternity and Sorority has to offer the community.
In case you couldn’t make it, here are the Greek Life organizations recognized by NJIT and a little bit about what they do to make our community so special.
Local sorority Sigma Psi Kappa is led by President Paula McCarter and her twelve sorority sisters, who dedicate their time to philanthropies such as one combating ovarian cancer, and also the American Heart Association. They are also responsible for hosting two blood drives per semester on campus. The sisters of Sigma Psi Kappa have held titles for “Sorority of the Year” and “Sorority with the highest GPA.” Not only do they work hard, but these ladies are firmly dedicated to their sisterhood and having fun while helping others in their community.
Recognized by NJIT and the National Multicultural Greek Council, the sisters of Lambda Tau Omega are another local sorority and are dedicated to the empowerment of women and the welfare of children. As a non-profit organization, Lambda Tau Omega emphasizes academic excellence as well as professional advancement through application of their values: “Excellence through Unity, Knowledge, and Dedication.” For 27 years the sorority has proved herself of her dedication and commitment to the community, reaching out to those far beyond.
Non-local Sororities also recognized by NJIT include Alpha Sigma Tau and Delta Phi Epsilon with additional recognition by the National PanHellenic Council. Alpha Sigma Tau supports Pine Mountain Settlement School in the Appalachian Mountains as its National Philanthropy and dedicate their time to helping those in the area make a difference in their lives and leave their mark on the world. Delta Phi Epsilon is partnered with the Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation to ensure and provide women of the community with access to outstanding educational opportunities.
NJIT’s only local fraternity Kappa Xi Kappa is the only existing fraternity of its name in the world. The fraternity includes students from NJIT as well as students from Rutgers-Newark. Led by President Kevin O’Keeffe, the brothers of Kappa Xi Kappa are passionate of their principles “Leadership, Uniqueness, and Courage.”
Fraternities recognized by NJIT as well as the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) include Alpha Sigma Phi, Delta Epsilon Psi, Pi Kappa Phi, Phi Sigma Kappa, Psi Upsilon, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Beta Rho, Sigma Pi, Tau Delta Phi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Theta Chi.
Fraternities who have gained recognition from NJIT, the NIC, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council include Iota Phi Theta and Phi Beta Sigma.
Fraternities under the recognition of the National Association for Latino Fraternal Organizations include Lambda Theta Phi, Lambda Sigma Upsilon, (both also recognized by the NIC) and La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc.
The brothers and sisters of each respective fraternity and sorority are hardworking, passionate, and highly dedicated about their futures, their brothers’ and sisters’ futures, and the futures of those all around them.
