The death of a young man who was visiting an on-campus Greek residence last week is under investigation by local authorities.
Jeremy Rodriguez, 23, of Secaucus, was declared dead on the scene shortly after Public Safety responded to a 7am call from the Alpha Sigma Phi Greek Village house last Wednesday, May 20, said a university official.
Police said Rodriguez was unresponsive when they found him and called Emergency Services. EMS workers declared Rodriguez deceased on the scene.
Rodriguez was attending a graduation celebration at the Alpha Sigma Phi house the night before his death, said a university official. According to an obituary published in The Jersey Journal, he was a server at the Bone Fish Grill in Secaucus. He is survived by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The incident is under university review and no further details are being released at the moment, a university official said. The cause of death is still under investigation and cannot be declared until toxicology reports are completed, says Katherine Carter, Director of Public Information of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Vector would like to extend its deepest condolences to the Marrero and Rodriguez families.
