Brangelina has sustained 12 years together, 2 years of marriage, and a parenthood of 6 children. Late September 19, all these things came to an end when Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from her husband Brad Pitt. Citing irreconcilable differences, Jolie also filed a petition to have sole physical custody of the children.

Upon the filing of divorce papers in court, rumors began to surface as to why such a seemingly perfect couple would end their relationship. One theory states that Jolie was fed up with Pitt’s alleged drug and alcohol abuse. This alleged substance abuse led to alleged child abuse by Pitt, which resulted in her filing the petition for physical custody. According to a source close to the couple, Jolie wanted to file divorce because Pitt was verbally and physically abusive to one of the children while they were on a private jet. Pitt has since then cooperated with the local authorities and undergone a voluntary drug test.

Another rumor being spread is that Pitt was having an affair with his Allied costar and French actress, Marion Cotillard. Cotillard, who has been with her longtime boyfriend and French actor, Guillaume Canet, since 2007 and has one child with him, issued a statement on September 22 via Instagram where she announced that she was expecting her second child with Canet. Cotillard also addressed the rumors as being absurd, and that she is not appreciative of all the negative attention surround ing herself and Pitt. Cotillard ended her statement by saying, “Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment.”

Amidst the cheating accusations, the internet’s response was to drag Jennifer Aniston into the mix. Aniston and Pitt were married from 2000 to 2005. Their marriage problems started when Pitt and Jolie met while filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Pitt ended up dating Jolie whilst still married to Aniston. Several memes surfaced of Aniston (mostly screencaps from the series Friends) laughing with captions referencing karma. Aniston herself has not spoken out about the divorce, but her Friends costar Courteney Cox was quick to come to her defense in light of the public’s thoughts. “I feel like we’re exacerbating it by even talking about,” she told Entertainment Tonight, adding, “It’s not about her.” Aniston’s husband, Justin Theroux, has also spoken out about her being thrust into the middle of the situation. “There are bigger things to b—- about. It’s shocking how much bandwidth things can take up when there are far more important things going on in the world.”
