Even though Halloween is a few days away, it’s never too early to start getting in the spirit. On Friday, October 25, Alpha Phi Omega helped to kick off the Halloween mood in NJIT by throwing a Halloween Soiree filled with food, games, and of course, some scares.

A huge bat with glowing orange eyes hung over the Atrium door, which would successfully entice curious passersby to step inside. The rest of the room was decorated in the spirit of the holiday with black and white balloons tied to the chairs, cobwebs all over the place, inflatable black cats, a tombstone, and black and orange streamers. Perhaps the best piece of decor was the ghost hovering over the food tables.

The fraternity had a pot luck that brought a wide assortment of treats: macaroni and cheese, spinach casserole, chips and salsa with dip, noodles, eggrolls, rice, and multiple trays of brownies, all of which were delicious.

If there were such a category, junior Anupa George, a biology major, definitely would have won for “most festive”. George wore a beautiful home-made gypsy costume, which she partly re-used from an old dance recital costume and turned into her own.

Sophomore Ilesha Sevak, also a biology major, organized the soiree. Although disappointed by the small turnout, Sevak succeeded in spreading the word about APO. Alpha Phi Omega is a co-ed service fraternity that is greatly involved with community service and leadership development.

“We get to promote APO and it’s a great social event for the brothers,” Sevak said.

Did the brothers enjoy the event? George smiled as she said, “I’m glad that I’m here!”
