YAC’S GOT YOUR BACK
Meet Vatsal Shah ‘08, ‘09, the current chair of the Education Sub-committee for the Young Alumni Club. Vatsal began his NJIT career in the fall of 2005 as a member of the Albert Dorman’s Honor College in pursuit of a career in Civil Engineering. Throughout his years at NJIT, Vatsal helped found NJIT’s Engineers Without Borders chapter, was involved with the Association of Indian Students, worked part-time, and occasionally attended class. In the spring of 2008, Vatsal graduated magna cum laude from NJIT with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He later went on to pursue and completed a Master of Science in Civil Engineering in Spring 2009 and is currently a fourth-year Ph.D candidate at NJIT in Civil Engineering, with expectations to graduate in 2014. He also concurrently works full-time at Hatch McDonald where he manages and is building its geotechnical subgroup and has been working there since graduating in 2008. In his free time, Vatsal volunteers at NJIT teaching review courses for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam, mentors a senior capstone course, volunteer as a regional coordinator for the MATHCOUNTS program for 5th through 8th grades, and is involved as a committee member with the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, and New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers. He enjoys winter sports, weight training, and is admittedly obsessed with Game of Thrones.
