Are you commuting to school and looking to explore meal options? There’s more to NJIT’s food scene than just GDS, and this helpful guide is here to help you find those places!
Just because GDS closes Continuous Dining kind of early for most folks (especially for those suffering through night class) there are lots of other late night options (or even early afternoon) that you can enjoy. As a resident, I checked out all the places throughout that the campus has to offer (or at least nearby).
Trattoria – An NJIT run pizza shop located right in the front of the campus center. I personally like this place as an alternative to something really quick to grab, and the prices aren’t too shabby compared to what other locations may charge you on campus. They have deals and specialty pizzas all the time, and it is really cozy too! You can munch and possibly work a little here.

Warren Street Café – Located in the Honors Building toward Laurel and Oak dormitories, this little café is actually pretty nice. The food they serve is enjoyable, although the prices are little iffy for some. Overall, the quality isn’t enough to downplay the price. However, the menu has quite the variety and it offers a lot more compared to other places.
Price Range: $$$
Aiello’s Warren Street Pizzeria – Another little pizza shop, except attached to Warren Street Café. It’s similar to the Trattoria with nearly identical menus, yet some claim that the food at this location trumps the other. For whatever reason they taste a bit better; the eatery also has a lot more room, on top of being more atmospheric. The eating space can be shared with the café next door.

Warren Street Village Market – Similar to the Corner Store located in the Campus Center, except this place has a bit more variety in their menu. They have a grill where you can make custom orders. Things you can get here are deli based sandwiches, burgers, chicken sandwiches, and decent specials. They also can give you cold cuts if you ask.
Price Range: $$$
Corner Store – Located in the Campus Center by the elevators; it’ll offer little things like snacks to tide you over, or a quick lunch in the form of a cold sandwich, wrap or salad. You can also get a F’real or a seemingly endless bag of candy. It’s really just there if you need something to boost you for the rest of the night or before class.
Price Range: $
Highlander Pub – Boy I love the pub, and I wish people really went out and enjoyed it too! They food isn’t actually bad at all and sometimes the specials are great. Events are held in there too all the time so you can eat and enjoy all at the same time. Movies are held there too, and honestly it’s just really cozy to hang around with friends and share some stories after a long day.

Commuter Cafeteria— the commuter haven with various food options ranging from sushi to salads. It is located in the Campus Center, right next to the Atrium. There is actually a Taco Bell in the back, selling a complete meal for a mere 5 bucks. Its central location, combined with its competitive prices make this the place to beat.
Price Range: $
“Starbucks” coffee shop—despite what you may think, it is not an actual Starbucks. They sell Starbucks coffee, but it is not officially affiliated with the entity that is Starbucks. It’s a tiny little café where you can meet with friends and talk, but not much else. They sell coffee here, obviously.

Off campus, there are tons of options if you feel like adventuring. By the University Centre/ GITC are Pizza Hut and Subway. Down by Halsey Street and Rutgers Newark we have a ton of little cafes, bars, and whatnot. Give your Google maps a little look and you’ll see a bunch of nifty places. Here are the big ones that you need to know.
Pizza Hut—if you want brand name pizza, this is the place to go. Of course, with brand name pizza comes brand name price. Unfortunately, it isn’t open 24/7.
Price Range: $$$
Subway/EZ Mart—always a reliable choice, it is open 24/7 and has provided food for many 12AM study sessions. However, be safe at night and remember to travel in groups.
Price Range: $$
Honorable Mention:
Chipotle—one of the newest additions to Newark’s culinary scene. While it is quite a bit away from campus, it is worth checking out. Right by the stadium, it offers everything that college students have come to love: cheap, fat, delicious Mexican food for low prices. Ambrosia.
