NJIT’s spring concert is coming back this year, and Magdalena Bay is set to perform on April 29, 2026, at the Wellness and Events Center (WEC). Graciously hosted and organized by the Student Activities Council (SAC), many are excited to watch them take the stage, but students still look puzzled when they hear the name.
Magdalena Bay is an alt-pop duo made up of Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin. Their music mixes synth-pop and indie pop with a dreamy, electronic sound. The two formed the project in 2016 after previously playing together in the band Tabula Rasa. They have since become known for their synth-heavy sound, futuristic visuals, and strong DIY internet style. Over time, they built a following through early singles, EPs, and their “Mini Mix” releases before gaining wider attention with their 2021 debut album, Mercurial World. Their popularity grew even more with their second album, Imaginal Disk, released in 2024. Their official website also highlights their more recent release, “Nice Day: A Collection of Singles”.
That rise in visibility is part of what makes the booking notable from a campus perspective. Magdalena Bay is not just a recognizable name in indie-pop spaces; the duo has also been moving into broader musical spaces. Pitchfork’s review of Imaginal Disk described the album as musically and conceptually dense, while Metacritic shows the record was well received by critics.
By bringing Magdalena Bay to campus, NJIT is reviving the spring concert with an artist who feels relevant to today’s student audience. The performance stands to be both a major entertainment event and a reminder of the role campus traditions play in building student life.
