Wednesday November 12th– The Office of International Students at NJIT held its Study Abroad Fair workshop to enlighten students about going overseas. At the event, students learned of the many available opportunities to explore other cultures while also continuing their college education.
A few common misconceptions were addressed by the Associate Director of NJIT’s Study Abroad/Exchange Program, Scott Kline:
Students think that studying abroad may delay graduation because credits might not transfer over.
Mr. Kline assured students that he would personally assist them in their hunt for schools that offered courses that coincided with the courses that are offered at NJIT, to make sure that students remained on track.
Studying abroad is an extremely expensive luxury that only a few can afford.
By working with the Study Abroad/Exchange Program, students will be charged the same tuition rate as at NJIT. All grants, scholarships, and aids also remain active due to the fact that you are still paying tuition to NJIT. The only difference is housing, which in many cases is significantly cheaper than living on campus at NJIT. The price is basically the same as living on campus for a semester, but you get an entirely different experience.
In addition, noted are the benefits of studying abroad:
Courses will be graded as either PASS/FAIL.
If you go abroad, your GPA will be the same when you come back. It will be the same, even if you fail every single class that you take.
You can study at top tier Ivy League universities in other countries.
NJIT offers exchange programs with Ivy League universities all over the world. This is perhaps one of the biggest advantages of this program, and is definitely worth looking into!
At the event, many students who had participated in the Study Abroad Program had nothing but positive things to say about their experience. Studying abroad helps develop better-rounded and globally oriented students.
It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, you don’t want to miss out on this!
