We recently posted a survey on various social media outlets including Facebook and Reddit, asking for reader feedback on The Vector. 42 readers responded, and here is a selection of what you had to say.
NJIT campus news was overwhelmingly the most commonly read news topic, with 39 survey respondents selecting this option. Technology news came in second, with 29 readers, followed by science, entertainment, business and gaming.
Many respondents commented that The Vector needs to focus more on NJIT news and less on gaming and entertainment. I agree; this has long been an area of weakness. Our staff members are passionate about a variety of topics, which largely tend towards technology and video games – no surprise at a technology-oriented school like NJIT. If you want to see change, come be part of the change. We are always looking for strong writers to cover events and tackle news items around campus.
This year, we re-launched our admittedly out-of-use and rusty website, njitvector.com. In addition to web versions of print articles, the website hosts exclusive photos and time-sensitive articles for which print would be too late. The newly released NJIT app also pulls articles from our site for convenient mobile viewing. Respondents commented that the usability of the site and app needs to be improved. We value these criticisms, especially as we are still in the early stages of our web launch, and are always striving for improvement.
To wrap up this State of the Vector report, I’d like to introduce next year’s Executive Board. I am confident in their abilities to continue our focused direction and increase the magnitude of our successes. Readers, if you have any comments, criticisms or suggestions, please do not hesitate to let us know. We are NJIT’s one and only newspaper, and we represent you.
