Welcome, Highlanders – both new and old! I’m a third-year mathematical sciences major and the editor-in-chief of The Vector this year! That essentially means I make sure we have a high-quality newspaper being published weekly; I overlook all the operations – writing, layout, photography, business, website, social media – and keep things running smoothly within each part and as a whole publication. Meeting with our advisors regularly is important and signing our organization up for events or planning some of our own are vital aspects as well. I also help recruit new members, so if you’re reading this, now’s your golden chance to become a Vectoid!
One of my favorite things to do on campus when I don’t have class is accompanying people I know to wherever they’re going. Walking to class? I’ll tag along (just not inside the classroom, of course)! Going to an event? I’ll walk them there and maybe stay if I’m interested, too. Grabbing some food? I’ll come along for the experience and not actually get anything! It’s pretty easy to do this when the entire campus is about a ten-minute walk from one end to the other. If you ever find yourself in need of a walking buddy, you know whom to ask now. Hope to see you at some Vector meetings this year!
Hi everyone! I’m Mrunmayi, and I first joined The Vector in my freshman year. I love to write and that’s where I started out at the newspaper. As managing editor, I collect each contributor’s pieces and collaborate with the Eboard to decide how to set up every edition. I also help write articles whenever possible, and my favorite part of the job is working with different people from the Vector and NJIT to get important stories out. If you’re interested in writing about current events, features, your opinions, or pop culture moments, make sure to reach out and join our Discord to see the publication process.
Outside of the newspaper, I am a sophomore biology major. Like most students here, I spend a lot of time studying and going to class, but I love to draw and read in my free time! I also like to try out the different exercise classes at the WEC (except Zumba … I can’t dance) which I’d recommend students to try out during common hours or when you have time to kill. When the weather is nice, you can find me at one of the outdoor tables or walking around campus.
Hey everyone!
My name is Areej, and I have been part of The Vector since I joined the team as a layout assistant in my freshman year. Now, as executive editor, I oversee the weekly layout, design, and visual aspects of our paper production. I also train new members on the layout team. We are always looking for new layout assistants and graphic designers, so reach out if you’re interested in learning more– no experience is necessary!
I’m a junior biomedical engineering student, and lately it feels like most of my days are pretty much filled with classes, studying, working, and commuting. However, when I have some downtime, I love to walk around and off campus with friends. One of my favorite spots on campus is the Campus Center terrace, especially at sunset! Also, there is always something happening inside the Campus Center, so I like to check that out or head over to the Vector office to relax and get some work done. There is plenty to do off campus as well! When the weather is nice, my friends and I like to walk to Yaya or Intrinsic for boba or try a new food spot in Newark. I hope you have a great semester and see you around!
As photography editor, my role is to make sure that each issue of The Vector has the photos that it needs to enhance our articles. Each week I make note of all the articles that could use photographs and make note of events around campus that should be documented in our “Snapshots” section. I assign photographers in the Vector to take these photos throughout the week, manage the equipment that they will need to take these photos, and edit them for use in the next issue. This is in addition to my general duties as an Eboard member such as planning events and helping to recruit new staff. I have held this role for the past two years and am very excited to continue.
When I am not working with The Vector or in my classes, I am probably spending much of my time working at Equitable. Aside from that, I like cooking and try to plan at least one large meal a week to share with my friends that challenges me in the kitchen. I am also a large fan of geography and statistics. I spend a lot of my time looking at the layout of different cities on Google Maps and looking up their histories and demographics on Wikipedia, in addition to playing games like GeoGussr. I also like riding my bike and try to go on longer rides when I can. To all the readers of the Vector and the whole student body: I hope you have a good semester.
Hi! I am Nick Merlino, the web and multimedia editor for The Vector! My role primarily revolves around maintaining the NJIT Vector website (www.njitvector.com) and updating it with all the articles from the most recent Vector newsletter, as well as managing the social media platforms that The Vector uses for social outreach, such as our Instagram page (@njit_vector) and our discord server. I also have the responsibility of maintaining the Vector records, which include newsletter issues dating back about 80 years to the original NJIT newspapers. On top of that, I also help plan and execute events for The Vector, like movie nights.
Outside of The Vector, I am a senior CS major commuter student that spends most of my time on campus in office hours for my classes or studying around campus. I also play a lot of videogames and have other hobbies including tabletop games, skateboarding and reading comic books (DC > Marvel). In the past, I’ve also done some tutoring/TA-ing on campus for different CS classes. I’m always looking to try new things and meet new people, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you see me!
Hello everyone! My name is Samira, I’m now a fourth-year biomedical engineering student here at NJIT. I’ve been a part of The Vector since my sophomore year and I am excited to come into my role as the incoming Business Manager for the 2022-2023 school year. In this role, I will be managing the financials, including revenue and expenses. I am the point of contact with our printing and publishing agencies as well as anyone interested in placing an advertisement in the paper. With some help from my Distribution Manager, I ensure the new issue of The Vector can be found all around campus.
Apart from The Vector, I am also a part of the Student Senate, serving as the Biomedical Engineering representative. This will be my second year serving in this organization and I enjoy taking part in countless activities across campus and serving as a liaison between students and staff. When I’m not in class, I can be seen hanging out in either the Senate office or the Vector office. I also spend time with friends, grabbing a bite to eat or studying together in CKB. I’m excited to see what my final year at NJIT has to offer and what great things will come of it.
